Meet Judge O'Grady
Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Jim O'Grady is a lifelong county resident. With over 28 years of courtroom experience, and nine years as a judge, Judge O’Grady is proud to ensure all people who come to municipal court are provided fairness, equality, and respect.
Judge O’Grady presides over criminal, traffic, and civil cases. He helped to create a first of its kind LGBTQ specific domestic violence counseling program for the municipal court probation department. Judge O’Grady also spearheaded the development of a court-based medication-assisted treatment program for individuals suffering from addiction.
Judge O’Grady previously served as a Franklin County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. In that position, he presented criminal cases to the grand jury for indictment and prosecuted cases in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.
Judge O’Grady began his legal career as a bailiff and magistrate in the Franklin County Municipal Court. While a bailiff, he worked tirelessly to improve the court by streamlining operations and assisting attorneys, victims, and witnesses in navigating the judicial system. Judge O’Grady presided over many civil trials as a Small Claims Magistrate, and ensured fair and just outcomes for the parties appearing before him.
Judge O’Grady graduated from Northland High School, studied political science and history at Ohio Dominican University, and earned his law degree from Capital University Law School. He is the proud father of Lucy, 13, and Rylie, 7.
